I’m Megan Reed, founder of Rustic Roots Home Academy, homeschool coach, curriculum specialist, and most importantly—mom. This space was born out of a deep passion for education, a love for simplicity and family, and a calling to help parents who feel overwhelmed, unsure, or just need a bit of guidance on their homeschooling journey.

My path into education began in 2018 when I opened an in-home daycare. That experience deepened my understanding of child development and sparked a desire to learn more. In 2020, I returned to school, became a certified teacher, and pursued a Master’s degree in Curriculum and Instruction. I entered the public school system with a clear mission: to bring student-led learning into the classroom and help improve the quality of education from the inside out.

But I quickly learned how difficult that would be. True change in the system requires collective effort—from fellow teachers, administrators, even the teacher’s union. That alignment was rarely there, and every step forward felt like a battle. Still, I wasn’t ready to give up on helping students get the education they deserve—one that meets them where they are, honors their pace, and encourages both growth and joy.

I began hearing stories from families who tried homeschooling but gave up too soon—overwhelmed by complex subjects or a lack of structure. Others returned to public school only to find their children struggling to adjust. Not because they weren’t capable, but because they’d gotten used to learning in their own way, at their own pace—and didn’t have the guidance they needed to thrive.

That’s why I created Rustic Roots Home Academy.

Rustic Roots is here to be a steady, heart-led guide for families who want to homeschool with confidence and clarity. It’s not about perfection—it’s about progress, purpose, and building an education that fits your child and your values.

My personal values—faith, family, nature, and simplicity—shape who I am and how I approach homeschooling, though Rustic Roots itself is not a faith-based program. I honor and support a wide range of homeschooling philosophies, and I often highlight resources and affiliations that reflect those values, always with the goal of helping families find what works best for them.

At the heart of it all is a commitment to creating the kind of education I want for my own son—one that supports his potential, respects his childhood, and helps him grow into a confident, capable, and curious learner.
